King Power Mahanakhon, one of Thailand's tallest buildings at some three hundred and fourteen metres, opened in 2016 in the Silom business district and is known for its unique shape: a square glass tower with a spiral of cube-shaped cuts down its side, as if pixels had been prised out of it. At the top is the SkyWalk observation deck, reached by lift in under a minute, with a transparent glass floor more than three hundred metres up that you walk across above the city, and an open-air rooftop with a full view over Bangkok and the winding river. In the evening it becomes a dazzling night view of the city lights. Official prices start from about five hundred baht and rise to about twelve hundred depending on the time, with sunset the most expensive. It opens daily from ten in the morning until midnight, with the last ascent at eleven. Book ahead for sunset if you want it, as it is the most popular slot, or come in the morning for a lower price and smaller crowds. If you dislike heights, the rooftop alone without the glass floor is enough.
