Bangkok's first public park and the biggest green lung in its centre, some fifty-seven hectares among the skyscrapers of Silom and Sukhumvit. It has an artificial lake where visitors rent boats, walking and jogging paths about two and a half kilometres long, and playgrounds. Its most curious residents are the water monitors, large lizards that live around the lake and wander calmly among visitors, which children love to watch from a distance. Early in the morning and in the evening the park fills with locals exercising and practising tai chi. Entry is free, and the park opens from dawn until evening. Smoking is banned, dogs are not allowed, and cycling is permitted only at set hours. The best time is early morning or just before sunset, when it is cooler. It is a perfect break between shopping and sightseeing, close to the Silom and Lumphini metro stations.

They are usually calm wild animals that do not attack, but do not approach or feed them, and watch children. Watched from a distance they are great fun.
