An elegant colonial post office on Merdeka Square, the heart of the city, built by the Dutch in 1911 and still working as a post office today, one of Medan's finest historic buildings and protected heritage. The building is distinguished by its tower and dome, its ornate white façade, and a broad, high-ceilinged hall lined with old service windows. Visitors can go in during opening hours and send a postcard from the historic office itself. Entry is free during opening hours. The building can be seen from outside at any time, best photographed from the square. It stands on Merdeka Square next to an old hotel and the railway station, near the Kesawan quarter, so make it the first stop on a walking tour of old Medan.
