A museum in the historic thirteenth-century St Mary's Church in central Kilkenny; the building was carefully restored and turned into a museum telling the story of the city in the Middle Ages, when it was one of Ireland's most important towns. It takes its name from the Medieval Mile, the historic street linking Kilkenny Castle with St Canice's Cathedral through narrow lanes and old buildings, and the museum is the perfect starting point for exploring it. The galleries hold carved tomb monuments of the city's great merchant families, models of the old town and interactive displays on the guilds, trade and daily life of the town centuries ago. Self-guided audio tours cost about €8 for adults and guided tours about €11, per visitor guides. It's a short walk from the castle and from Rothe House.
