Museo Evita is devoted to the life of Eva Perón, wife of President Juan Domingo Perón and one of the best-known figures in Argentine history, and to the social work of her foundation. It opened on 26 July 2002, the fiftieth anniversary of her death, and has been a National Historic Monument since 2007. The museum fills an elegant Spanish colonial-style house built by the architect Estanislao Pirovano in 1923 for a banking family; the Eva Perón Foundation bought it in 1948 as a temporary home for women and children in need. The rooms tell her story from a rural childhood to acting and public life, through photographs, documents, film and a collection of her famous dresses. It opens Tuesday to Sunday 11:00-19:00 and closes Mondays. The ticket includes an audio guide, and the house has a restaurant in a pleasant courtyard.
