The Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum of Spanish-American Art began in the 1910s in the home of the collector Isaac Fernández Blanco, Argentina's first private museum, which he then gave to the city. Since 1947 it has occupied Palacio Noel, an elegant white neo-colonial house with wooden balconies, carved doors and a quiet inner garden among the city's trees. It shows the arts of colonial Spanish America: fine silverwork made from Andean mines, furniture and inlaid chests, old musical instruments and paintings from the Cusco and Potosí schools, alongside rooms that recreate old houses. It opens every day except Tuesday, and the garden alone is worth the visit for its calm in the heart of the city.
