Coffee era.
The Bernardino de Campos Historical and Educational Museum in Amparo occupies an 1885 building that was the home of Colonel Luiz Leite and later the seat of the town hall and council, before the museum opened there on 29 November 1975. It holds some fifteen thousand pieces, mostly from the nineteenth century, reflecting above all the height of the coffee era in the region: furniture, clothing, musical instruments, old vehicles, porcelain, photograph collections and a range of artworks. It is considered the most important museum on São Paulo state's Circuito das Águas. It stands on Rua Luiz Leite in the heart of the historic centre, a short walk from the mansions of Rua Ana Cintra and Rua Barão de Campinas, rounding off a tour of the old town. No up-to-date hours are published, so call the museum before visiting.
