The Capão da Imbuia Natural History Museum is a division of the fauna research and conservation department of Curitiba's environment secretariat, set in the district of the same name inside a remnant of Araucaria forest, the Brazilian pine that symbolises Paraná. It carries out zoological research, conservation, environmental education and the care of scientific collections, especially of Paraná's wildlife. The museum takes in the district's municipal woodland, permanent exhibitions and a research section, and its taxidermy collections are large, led by birds, reptiles, fish and mammals. Its woods hold araucarias and imbuias, among them an imbuia estimated at more than 500 years old, and a trail designed to stimulate the senses; neighbours use the grove a lot at weekends. The museum staged a sensory exhibition on «the forest with araucaria», with audio description for visually impaired visitors. Entry is free and it opens Tuesday to Sunday; check the hours, and book guided visits by phone.
