The Museum of Arts and Crafts opened on 14 December 2005 as the first Brazilian museum devoted entirely to work and trades, in the historic central railway station complex on Praça da Estação in central Belo Horizonte, where a metro station and a rail line still operate. It covers 9,000 m². It grew from a donation of more than 2,000 pieces to the public by the Flávio Gutierrez Cultural Institute, and its collection now shows over 2,500 objects tracing how crafts and trades built the economy of Minas Gerais from the 18th to the 20th century. It is considered one of Brazil's best-organised museums. Entry is free with no booking needed for individuals, Tuesday to Friday 10:00-17:00 and Saturday 9:00-17:00, last entry 16:30.
