Usually not. Most productions are fully translated into German โ dialogue and songs alike โ so following them without the language is hard. The exception is dance or music shows that do not depend on text. If you want a cultural evening in Cologne without a language barrier, the opera or a concert at the Philharmonie is a better choice.

The Musical Dome is a performance venue on the Rhine bank directly north of the cathedral, distinguished in the city's skyline by its blue hemispherical dome. It was built in 1996 as a temporary structure meant to be removed after a few years โ yet it still stands nearly three decades later, which has become a local joke in Cologne. The hall seats around one thousand seven hundred and hosts the major musicals on their German tours, alongside entertainment shows and concerts. The programme changes seasonally, and most productions are in German โ a practical consideration for a visitor who does not speak it. Its location is its real advantage: on the riverfront between the cathedral and the railway station, easily walkable from anywhere in the centre, and a stroll along the embankment before or after a show is part of the evening. From outside, the blue dome is a visual marker familiar to anyone who has visited Cologne.
