A classical Chinese garden in the style of the Tang dynasty, 3.5 hectares in Diamond Hill, Kowloon, opened on 14 November 2006 and a calm oasis among the tall housing towers around it. The garden was laid out with great care, every rock, tree and pond placed with intent. Its best-known sights are the gleaming golden pavilion in the lotus pond, the two red bridges over the water, old pines trained into artistic shapes and striking rock formations. The garden belongs to the neighbouring Chi Lin Nunnery and has a vegetarian restaurant, a tea house and a gallery of traditional Chinese timber architecture, linked by paths that lead from one view to the next. Entry is free and the garden is open daily 07:00–21:00, easy to reach by metro to Diamond Hill station. Come early in the morning, when it is quiet and the light is soft.
