A cable-stayed bridge over the Huangpu south of the Bund, part of Shanghai's elevated inner ring road. Opened in 1991, it marked the start of modern long-span cable-stayed bridge building in China, with a main span of 428 m. Its best-known feature is the double spiral approach on the west bank, 180 m across and 7.5 km in total length, listed when built as the world's largest; from above it looks like a whirl of roadways. It is the sister of the Yangpu Bridge to the north. The bridge can be seen free from the riverside walks south of the Bund and the nearby Expo area, and it looks finest when its cables are lit in the evening.
