Navruz Palace, or Kokhi Navruz, is a huge, richly decorated building in central Dushanbe, described as one of the largest palaces in the world and one of the city's sights. It is about 1.5 km in a straight line from Rudaki Park. The palace opened in 2014. The architects first planned a modern teahouse in the national style on the site of an old one that had been demolished. The chief architect was Samijon Aziziyon, and the building rises 50 metres over five floors, covering about 40,000 square metres. The long white front has columns, arches and a tall central entrance, crowned by a dome. Inside are 12 halls decorated by Tajik craftsmen with carved plaster, mosaic, stained glass, carving in wood and stone, and mirror work; the Arzhang hall is made of 29 kinds of semi-precious stone. Summer terraces and fountains surround the palace. The palace stands on Ismoil Somoni Avenue, opposite the zoo and the central stadium and next to Kuli Javonon park. Check locally whether the halls are open to visitors, as they are used for events and banquets.
