The New Bazaar, or Pazari i Ri, is a neighbourhood and market east of the central boulevard in Tirana, and with the Mujos area forms part of the old town. It is one of the easiest places in Tirana to see local produce and small restaurants together, busy with residents and visitors alike. It was built in 1931 on the site of the old bazaar, which once extended to today's Skanderbeg Square. In 2017 it was completely redesigned, losing most of what remained of its older look, with modern buildings added above and below the market. The historic Kokonozi Mosque also stands in the area. The square holds stalls of fruit, vegetables, cheese and honey, surrounded by restaurants, cafes and bars full of visitors. You will find Albanian food and more, but check the menu if you need halal food, as some places serve alcohol and pork. In the morning it feels like a real market, and by evening more like a place to go out. It is 500 m in a straight line from Bunk'Art 2 and 2 km from the Grand Park, an easy walk from the centre. Morning is best for shopping, when produce is fresher and crowds thinner. Carry lek for small stalls, and compare prices before you buy.
