A large man-made forest park at the north end of the Olympic Green, created for the 2008 Olympics on Beijing's north–south central axis, the same line as the Forbidden City, and designed by Sasaki with Tsinghua University's landscape design institute. Its southern half centres on the Aohai lake with small islands and bridges and Yangshan hill, which looks out over the city; an ecological bridge over the Fifth Ring Road links it to the wilder northern half, and its jogging trails are among Beijing's favourites. Entry is free with no booking needed; it opens from 5 am to 10 pm from mid-March to mid-November and from 6 am to 9 pm in winter, per visitor guides. The South Gate is beside Olympic Forest Park South Gate station on metro line 8.
