China's national science and technology museum, founded in 1988 and moved in September 2009 into a huge building on the Olympic Green in north Beijing, with a silver spherical dome beside it that holds a cinema. Its hands-on galleries explore science and technology in everyday life, and the highlight is the Chinese space section: the real return capsule of Shenzhou 1, full-size models of the Chang'e lunar landers, the core module of the Tianhe space station and the Zhurong Mars rover, and rocket engines. There is also a children's science park and giant-screen cinemas, each with its own ticket. The main hall costs CNY 30, or 20 for students, booked online with passport details; it is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30 am to 5 pm and closed on Mondays and the first days of Chinese New Year, per visitor guides.
