A rescue and rehabilitation centre for birds of prey on a green hill above Otavalo, about 2,800 metres up, working to protect the Andean condor, Ecuador's national symbol, and to teach visitors about raptors threatened by hunting and habitat loss. In roomy aviaries among gardens live birds that cannot return to the wild after injury: the broad-winged condor, vultures, hawks, eagles and owls of many kinds. Panels tell each bird's story and nature. The highlight is the flight show, when a hawk, an owl and an eagle fly low over the audience under the trainers' care, with talks on how they hunt and soar. Shows usually run at 11:30 and 15:30, and may change in rain. The park has lovely views over Otavalo, Lake San Pablo and Imbabura volcano. It is a short taxi ride or an uphill walk from Otavalo town.
