The Roberto Burle Marx City Park is a protected area in São José dos Campos, in the Paraíba Valley, created from 1996 on part of the old farm of the Parahyba textile mill, which covered 960,000 square metres. The mill was founded in 1925, opened in 1927 and was run from 1933 by the industrialist Olivo Gomes. Its highlight is the former Olivo Gomes family house, designed by the office of the architect Rino Levi with landscaping by Roberto Burle Marx, after whom the park is named. Since 1997 the house has held the São José dos Campos Folklore Museum, which presents the popular culture of the Paraíba Valley and the north coast of São Paulo state. The park opens daily from 6 am according to the city, and makes a walk among lawns and trees combined with a visit to the museum.
