Yes if you are going to the Oceanarium anyway, since the district around it completes the visit at no cost. If your days in Lisbon are few and you want the historic city, Belém, the Alfama and the centre clearly come first — this is a modern quarter, not heritage.
It is among the best areas of Lisbon for that. The ground is entirely flat and pushchairs move easily, the spaces are open, and the Oceanarium and cable car appeal to children. The rest of Lisbon is hills, stairs and slippery tiles; this district is comfortable by comparison.

A modern district on the Tagus in north-east Lisbon, built entirely to host the Expo 98 world fair and afterwards reused as a residential, commercial and cultural quarter. That is what makes it unlike the rest of Lisbon: no narrow lanes, no tiles, no hills, but contemporary architecture, open space and a long flat riverfront. The area was contaminated industrial land and an oil refinery before the fair, so the transformation is total. Its best-known feature is the Oceanarium, among the largest indoor aquariums in Europe, which has its own page, alongside a cable car running above the waterfront, the Vasco da Gama tower, and the Vasco da Gama bridge stretching more than seventeen kilometres across the Tagus. Practically: the district is flat and easy to walk, and it is among the best parts of Lisbon for families with pushchairs or anyone who finds the hills hard. Access is direct by metro to Oriente station.
