Parque de la Independencia is Rosario's largest and best-known park, about 126 hectares near the city's geographic centre, with tall trees, a lake where people go boating, flower gardens, sculptures and fountains. One of its charms is the floral calendar, where every evening since 1946 gardeners rearrange the flowers to spell out the day's date on the ground. It also has the Rosedal rose garden, finished in 1915, a geometric French garden, the Castagnino fine arts museum at its edge, and the stadium of the Newell's Old Boys football club. The park is free and open, and fills with families and runners at weekends. It pairs with the Castagnino museum for half a day.
