From the 19th century.
The Juan B. Castagnino Fine Arts Museum is considered the most important art museum outside Buenos Aires and the second in all of Argentina. It stands at the edge of Parque de la Independencia in an elegant white building from the 1930s, designed by the architects Hilarión Hernández Larguía and Juan Manuel Newton and given to the city by Rosa Tiscornia de Castagnino in memory of her son. It holds a broad collection of Argentine art from the 19th century on, works by European artists and temporary exhibitions. The city runs it together with the MACRO contemporary art museum on the riverfront. Entry is free, with an optional token contribution. It opens Wednesday to Friday 13:00-19:00 and Saturday, Sunday and holidays 10:00-19:00, with guided tours and no booking needed.
