Paulo Gorski Ecological Park, known as the «Lago Municipal», is the largest green space in Cascavel in western Paraná. Together with the neighbouring zoo it forms what is described as the largest urban ecological reserve in southern Brazil, about 117 hectares, sixty of them native forest. The park was created in 1977, and its 39-hectare lake was officially opened in November 1984. A walking path of more than six kilometres circles it, mostly under the trees, where visitors come across local birds and plants. The lake is fed by the springs of the Cascavel River, and its outflow supplies some seventy per cent of the city's drinking water. In 2015 the park gained an extension with a 1,750-metre walkway, a cycle path and bridges over the river. It is the city's meeting place for walking, running and canoeing, and entry is free.
