Parque Santos Dumont is a green space in central São José dos Campos, opened on 23 October 1971 on 46,500 square metres and named after the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, the flight pioneer Brazilians are proud of. The park suits a city of aviation and space, showing pieces of that history: a replica of the 14-bis aircraft that Santos Dumont flew, the prototype of the Bandeirante plane and models of the Sonda family of rockets. It also has a Japanese garden and a lake with fish and birds. There is also a walking track, exercise equipment, kiosks, a skate area and a playground, so it makes a short family outing in the city centre and pairs well with the nearby Vicentina Aranha Park.
