The Vicentina Aranha Park in São José dos Campos is a former tuberculosis sanatorium turned public park. The sanatorium opened on 27 April 1924 as the first of its kind in the city, and it was designed by the architect Ramos de Azevedo. It belonged to the Santa Casa de São Paulo and from 1980 housed a geriatric hospital, which closed in 2003. The city bought the site in 2006 and opened it as a public park in 2007, and a cultural association has run its programme since 2011. It is listed at city level since 1996 and state level since 2001. Its historic pavilions stand among trees and lawns, some under restoration and only visible from outside, and historians lead guided visits. It opens daily from 6 am to 9 pm according to the city.
