Parque Vila dos Remédios is a green space in western São Paulo city, near the Osasco border, covering about 109,800 square metres; locals call it «Matão», the big wood, for its dense trees. Until 1976 the land was known as the Bosque das Freiras, the Nuns' Wood; it was then expropriated for public use and became the park, which celebrated its fortieth anniversary in 2019, suggesting it opened around 1979. The park has running and walking tracks, woodland trails, bike paths, playgrounds, sports courts and picnic areas, a quiet breathing space for the western districts away from the crowded centre. It opens daily from 6:00 to 18:00 according to published listings, and entry is free.
