A broad, gently sloping shelf of limestone over which a thin sheet of water flows, scattering droplets that sparkle like pearls in the sun, which gave it its name, before it ends abruptly at an edge where the water plunges as a wide waterfall 28 metres high and 310 metres across. The yellow lime on the rocks builds up from minerals dissolved in the water, year after year, so the shoal slowly builds itself, and a scene of the famous television series «Journey to the West» was filmed here. Visitors cross the shoal on a boardwalk above the flowing water, then take steps down to the foot of the falls where the spray rises, and the path continues to nearby Mirror Lake; the falls lie below Five Flower Lake, so the two are easy to combine on foot. The falls are covered by the Jiuzhaigou Valley ticket, CNY 190 plus CNY 90 for the bus in season, per visitor guides. Watch out for wet, slippery steps near the spray.
