Pedra Bonita is a rocky summit in Sector C of Tijuca National Park, between Pedra da Gávea and the São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca districts, and one of Rio's best-loved hikes because it is short and fairly easy: about 1.3 km uphill, twenty to forty minutes for most people. The top looks over São Conrado and Barra beaches, the Dois Irmãos hill, the huge dome of Pedra da Gávea and the Tijuca forest. On its slope is one of the world's best-known and busiest hang-gliding ramps, where tandem instructional flights by hang-glider or paraglider run in partnership with the Brazilian Hang-Gliding Association and land on São Conrado beach. The trail opens 8:00-17:00 (to 18:00 in summer), with the last start uphill at 16:00. Entry is free, the car park at the gate holds no more than 24 cars, and pets and camping are not allowed.
