A night-time cultural theme park at Kamala Beach, opened in December 1998 on about twenty hectares at a cost of over three billion baht. Its centrepiece is a huge stage show of about seventy minutes blending Thai culture with illusions and special effects, in a theatre built as a Sukhothai-era stone elephant palace. Before the show visitors stroll a lit festival village of shops, games and stalls, with a large buffet restaurant. The show itself is colourful and loud, with dancers, acrobats and animals including elephants, which draws criticism from some animal-welfare advocates. The official price for the show alone is about eighteen hundred baht, and about two thousand two hundred per adult with dinner, with children priced by height. The park opens in the evening and closes on Thursdays except on public holidays. Photography is banned in the theatre and phones and cameras are checked at the entrance. Book ahead on the official website or through your hotel, and check the buffet if you need halal food. The show suits families looking for a different evening out.
