Picãozinho is a coral reef about 1.5 kilometres off Tambaú beach in João Pessoa. When the tide goes out, much of it is exposed and natural pools form among its rocks, full of reef fish, corals and algae; boats have carried visitors out since the 1980s. Its name comes from the many coral peaks (picos) on the reef. Boats leave Tambaú beach for a crossing of 15 to 20 minutes, and the whole outing lasts about three hours. Departure times change every day because trips are timed to low tide, and they are only worth it on days when the tide table drops to between 0.0 and 0.5 metres. Snorkelling masks can be rented on board. Visitors are asked not to walk on the coral, and feeding the fish is now banned. The water is clearest in the dry season, and on the way out you see the cliffs of Cabo Branco.
