Tambaú is an urban beach in the João Pessoa district of the same name, about 1.2 km of fine, firm sand and blue-green water, and the departure point for boats to the Picãozinho natural pools (which have their own page). On its sand stands the circular Tambaú Hotel, opened in September 1971 and the city's most distinctive hotel. Nearby is the Paraíba Crafts Market, opened in 1990 in a colonial-style building of about 6,100 m², selling lace, crochet, rugs, leatherwork and local painting, along with the small Tambaú fair. The beach is free, lined by a promenade and restaurants, and makes an easy base for the city's seafront.
