The Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge, known locally as the «Ponte Estaiada» or cable-stayed bridge, crosses the Pinheiros river in the south of São Paulo. It opened on 10 May 2008 after three years of work and has become one of the city's best-known postcards. It is named after the businessman Octávio Frias de Oliveira. The bridge hangs from a single X-shaped concrete tower 138 metres tall, from which two independent curved roadways, each turning 60 degrees, are suspended by cables and cross over the river. It is the only cable-stayed bridge in the world carrying two curved roadways from one mast. It links Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho with the Marginal Pinheiros expressway, part of a road complex that eases access to the city's southern districts. It is not a walking bridge, but it is seen and photographed from the nearby riverbanks and looks striking at sunset.
