It is possible but long: about ninety minutes by train each way on top of a full day inside the park. With young children the day becomes very tiring, which is why many families stay a night in Salou or the resort hotels.
They are separate parks in the same resort with separate tickets. PortAventura is much larger and more varied and suits mixed-age families; Ferrari Land is smaller and focused on high-speed rides, suiting teenagers and adults more.
Spring and early autumn beat high summer: less heat and shorter queues. Avoid Spanish school holidays if you can, and check seasonal opening, since the resort does not run at full capacity all year.

One of the largest theme parks in southern Europe, near Salou in Tarragona province, about a hundred kilometres south of Barcelona. The park is divided into geographically themed areas, taking in the Mediterranean, China, Mexico, the American West and Polynesia, each with its own rides and restaurants. The main draw for adults is the big roller coasters, some of them among the tallest and fastest on the continent. For families with younger children there are dedicated areas with gentler rides, which is what lets the place work for different ages on the same day. Distance is the deciding factor. A hundred kilometres from Barcelona means roughly an hour and a half by train or car each way, which makes a day trip long and tiring. Many families stay a night in the resort's own hotels or in nearby Salou. Planning matters: buy tickets in advance, arrive early, and check which rides are closed for maintenance before you go. The resort also holds a water park and a second Ferrari-themed park, each with its own separate ticket.
