Enseada Beach is the main urban beach of Bertioga on São Paulo state's north coast, running along the town to the Indaiá district, with light, firm sand lined with a few coconut palms and kiosks, and a rough sea whose waves draw surfers. Its seafront has a promenade, a cycle path, a square, a garden, a playground and an events area, making it the town's family beach and evening stroll. Near the polluted Bertioga Channel the water is unfit for swimming, so keep away from the channel end. A beach day pairs well with the historic São João fort at the channel mouth and the nearby Sesc nature reserve. Follow the state's water-quality bulletins before swimming.
