Enseada is the longest beach in Guarujá on the São Paulo coast, a 5.6-kilometre sweep of fine white sand in a broad arc north-east of the town centre. What sets it apart from Guarujá's other beaches is a town plan that kept tall apartment blocks off the seafront except at either end, so houses and low buildings line the back of the sand and the skyline stays open, unlike the tower-lined Pitangueiras. Kiosks and restaurants run the length of the beach, and its long sand is ideal for walking and running in the morning or at sunset, with views from its ends of the little Ilha das Cabras, «Goat Island», and the green hills around the bay. At its far end, around the area known as Tortugas, boat and speedboat trips and water rides set off. The beach is also home to the AcquaMundo aquarium, one of the largest in Latin America at about 5,775 square metres; check its times and prices. Enseada is one of Guarujá's main spots for evenings out, with restaurants busy after dark. The beach fills up in summer and at weekends, so go early.
