Fazenda («Farm») beach lies in the Picinguaba area north of Ubatuba, where Atlantic Forest meets the sea in a landscape rated among the most beautiful in the state and the country, the setting for scenes from well-known Brazilian films and series. In 2009 Britain's Guardian called it «one of Brazil's great natural gems, where protected, densely forested coastal mountains plunge steeply into beaches and blue sea». The beach is part of the Picinguaba unit of Serra do Mar State Park, within the protected Quilombo da Fazenda area, home to descendants of escaped enslaved people and traditional caiçara communities. Each year the community holds a food festival celebrating a culture more than two hundred years old. It makes a full day between forest and sea away from development, and pairs with the nearby village of Picinguaba. Respect the park's rules and take your rubbish with you.
