Macumba Beach is a beach in Recreio dos Bandeirantes in western Rio de Janeiro, about 1.3 kilometres long, between Prainha and Pontal beach, with the Pedra do Pontal separating it from Recreio beach. It is one of the city's best-known surf spots and is called a paradise for longboarders. It offers lefts and rights for different levels from three main peaks: one suited to longboards, one with a fast, hollow wave, and a third formed after a stone structure was built, known for strong tubes and favoured by bodyboarders. Conditions are best with south or south-east swells, northerly wind and low to mid tide. The shore is steep and the strong waves can create rip currents, so swimming calls for care. It is good for watching surfers and walking the sand away from the crowds of the south zone; follow the lifeguards' flags.
