Biggest on the island.
Praia de Fora, the «Outer Beach», lies on the exposed Atlantic side of Ilha do Mel off the coast of Paraná and is the island's favourite with surfers, as its waves are bigger than on the other beaches. The beach runs for about a kilometre of soft, pale sand framed by rocks and a green hill, and stays almost deserted most of the time even though there are restaurants and kiosks nearby. It lies close to the well-known Gruta das Encantadas and is also easy to reach from the Vila do Farol and Nova Brasília side of the island. Boats cross to the island daily from Pontal do Sul in about thirty minutes and from Paranaguá in about an hour and a half. The beach suits watching the surfers and walking on the sand; swimming calls for care on days of high surf, so check sea conditions locally.
