Tabatinga is one of the best-known beaches of Conde on Paraíba's south coast, about thirty kilometres from João Pessoa. Its defining feature is its towering walls of red cliffs, in fine contrast with a warm, calm sea. At low tide natural pools of clear water form among the reefs, good for a gentle swim, and guides note that dolphins are sometimes seen close to shore. The beach is quiet, with few inns and barely one bar, away from the crowds. It can be combined with a tour of the «Costa do Conde» beaches, such as neighbouring Coqueirinho with its cliffs and rock canyons. Check the tide table before going to see the pools, and take care as the sea can turn rough in places.
