Praia do Peró is one of the longest beaches in Cabo Frio, in the Lakes Region of Rio de Janeiro state: about seven kilometres of white sand north of the town centre, and one of its cleanest and calmest stretches. The sea mixes sections with waves used by surfers and calmer sections suited to swimming. Along the sand lie the Peró Dunes, part of the Pau-Brasil Environmental Protection Area, which protects the dunes and the coastal restinga scrub, and local fishermen still work the beach in the traditional way. In 2018 the beach received the international Blue Flag certification for the first time, and it was renewed for the 2025–2026 season for the eighth year in a row; the scheme assesses water quality, environmental management, safety and facilities. The beach is free and open, with food kiosks in summer.
