Phuket's most famous sunset viewpoint: a rocky headland reaching into the Andaman Sea at the island's southern tip, topped by a small lighthouse and shrine, where hundreds of visitors gather every evening to watch the sun sink behind the horizon and the small islands. From the platform the sea opens on three sides, with little Ko Kaeo island in front of the cape and Nai Harn Beach to the north. You can walk down the rocky path toward the tip of the headland for a short adventure, but the rocks are slippery. The viewpoint is free and always open, with parking, small restaurants and stalls. It gets very crowded just before sunset, so arrive half an hour early for a good spot, or visit by day to enjoy the quiet and the view. Combine it on a southern tour with the Big Buddha and Wat Chalong, and make it the last stop of the day. Nearby, the Windmill Viewpoint offers a similar view with smaller crowds.
