One of Muscat's most beautiful and popular beaches, a wide stretch of golden sand in the Qurum area on the Sea of Oman, with a long sandy section and a rocky one at its end, overlooked by hotels and houses on the headlands. The beach takes its name from the qurm, the mangrove trees that grow nearby in Khor Al Qurum, a nature reserve ringed by mangroves and palms; the authorities plant mangroves along the coast. A palm-lined promenade runs along the beach with cafés and restaurants, and Muscat's residents come to walk, jog and play football, especially in the evening. It is known for sunsets over the sea. It is free and always open. The sea is open and waves can be strong, so take care swimming; winter is the best season, and summer is hot and humid.
