Science made fun.
«Sabina Escola Parque do Conhecimento» is an interactive science centre in Santo André, run by the city's education department. It opened on 11 February 2007 after six years of planning and brings science, art and technology together in a space designed as one large experimental laboratory. The building was designed by the celebrated Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, winner of the Pritzker Prize. It covers more than twenty-four thousand square metres, fourteen thousand of them built on two floors: a vast main pavilion for experiments and a wing with the Johannes Kepler planetarium and a digital theatre. It welcomed more than seventy thousand visitors in its first months. Visitors, especially students and families, move between hands-on science experiments, laboratories and multimedia libraries that explain the story of life and the workings of physics in an engaging way. It is one of the most important informal learning spaces in the ABC region. Check the planetarium's show times.
