Segunda Praia, the «Second Beach», is the liveliest beach of Morro de São Paulo village on Tinharé Island in Bahia, and according to most guides the centre of the village's nightlife. Its sand is lined with stalls and the loungers and umbrellas offered by restaurants and inns, and a wooden boardwalk runs past bars and restaurants. At night the stalls turn into restaurants with live music, and parties run until dawn to sounds from Brazilian popular music to reggae and forró. By day the water is calm and clear, natural pools form at low tide, and you can hire kayaks and stand-up paddleboards or play volleyball. On weekends and holidays the beach gets crowded and loud, so come on a weekday for calm, or move on to the quieter beaches beyond. Lounger prices rise at weekends; ask before sitting down.
