A gift from the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia, built after the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and opened in November 2022, it has become Solo's newest and most visited landmark. Its white domes, four slender minarets and columns inlaid with golden flowers make an Arab visitor feel as if in Abu Dhabi at the heart of Java. The mosque holds thousands of worshippers; its main hall is laid with rich carpet and hung with great chandeliers, and floral inlay decorates its walls and columns. White marble courtyards and reflecting pools surround it, at their loveliest at sunset and at night when the mosque is lit. Entry is free, with visitor access at set times outside prayers, in modest dress with headscarves for women; robes are available at the entrance. It is busy on holidays and weekends. It is the first stop for every Arab visitor to Solo: pray Maghrib here, then stroll the lit courtyards. Food and souvenir stalls are nearby, with ample parking.
