Imerovigli is the trail's middle station โ Skaros the walkers' scenic rest: a half-hour detour worth every step. The time-tight come independently: the Imerovigli bus and the full hour's walk, chapel included.

Skaros is Santorini's forgotten castle: the pyramid rock charging into the caldera's heart before Imerovigli carried the island's greatest Venetian fortress (13th century) โ capital of all its middle centuries until earthquakes drove it to new Fira, leaving the rim's most famous protrusion. The path leaves Imerovigli's square: steps down, the famous saddle walkway, then a short rise around the rock โ half an hour to the shoulder and its circular basin view from Oia to Fira โ with the hidden reward behind: the small white Theoskepasti chapel on the sea cliff, the island's loveliest church site. It is the clever alternative sunset walk: Oia's crowds shove there while you stand your rock nearly alone, the sun sinking through the same western gap.

The island's greatest fort โ quakes erased it, the scene stayed.
