A Catholic church on Wangfujing shopping street, also called the «East Church», one of Beijing's four historic Catholic churches. It was founded in 1653 by two Jesuit missionaries, the Italian Lodovico Buglio and the Portuguese Gabriel de Magalhães, on land granted by the Shunzhi Emperor; it was destroyed and rebuilt several times, and the present building dates from 1904. It is built in Romanesque Revival style in grey brick, with three small domes and arches, and in front lies a broad tree-lined square on the pavement where passers-by and skateboarders gather in the evening. The square is open to all and free, while the church itself opens for services and at set times, per visitor guides; respect worshippers if you go in.
