Gulangyu's highest point, a huge boulder more than 40 m tall atop Longtou hill, rising about 92.7 m above sea level and crowned by a round viewing platform. From the top a panoramic view takes in the whole island, its red roofs and historic mansions among the trees, Xiamen and its skyscrapers across the strait, and the ships entering the harbour. Visitors climb stone steps between rocks and trees, past old Chinese inscriptions carved in the rock; the climb is short but narrow and crowded in season. Tickets are about CNY 50, or about 90 for a combined pass covering several island sights, per visitor guides. Climb early in the morning, before the tour groups.
