A modern cultural park in southern Xi'an near the site of the famous Furong imperial garden of the Tang capital; building began in 2002 and it opened in 2005, offering a contemporary take on Tang architecture and court culture. A large lake lies at its heart, ringed by palaces, pavilions, bridges and towers with curved roofs and bright colours in the style of the Tang, often seen as the golden age of Chinese civilisation. In the evening the park becomes magical, its buildings and bridges lit up, with water, light and firework shows on the lake alongside dance and music performances in Tang costume. Entry is ticketed and the big evening shows are priced separately; visitor guides disagree on the figures. Come late in the day and stay into the evening, and pair it with the nearby Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
