The Teatro San Martín is the main and busiest theatre in San Miguel de Tucumán, opened on 18 May 1912 as the Teatro Odeón with an operetta, part of a project by Governor Luis Nougués to adorn the city with modern buildings set among gardens. It was designed as an opera house in a horseshoe shape, with excellent acoustics in every corner of the hall, and seats about eight hundred. It closed in 1951 and reopened in 1959 under its present name, and today it is home to the province's ballet, choir and theatre companies, hosting concerts, opera and plays. The best way to see the hall is at a performance; tickets are sold at the box office, priced by show.
