A crocodile farm in the village of Teluk Sengat near the Johor River, counted among the largest in Peninsular Malaysia; its keepers say it holds more than a thousand crocodiles, most of them saltwater crocodiles, from hatchlings the size of a hand to huge adults lying motionless in the sun. Visitors move between the fenced ponds and pens and watch the feeding sessions, when keepers throw in meat and the crocodiles lunge for it in an instant, the moment that most astonishes children. You can also pose for a photo with a baby crocodile, with a keeper's help. Entry is about fifteen ringgit per foreign adult and less for children, and it opens daily from nine in the morning to six in the evening. The place is simple and rustic in character, so don't expect a modern zoo, rather a modest country farm. It is minutes from the Kota Johor Lama fort and museum, so pair the two in half a day, and about an hour's drive from Johor Bahru. Ask about feeding times when you arrive, since that is the best moment to be there.
